Watch the Total Solar Eclipse from These National Parks

The total solar eclipse occurring in 2024 will provide a breathtaking celestial event for spectators across North America. While several national parks will offer excellent viewing opportunities, it's important to plan ahead and consider factors such as weather conditions, accessibility, and crowd sizes. Here are a few national parks located along the path of totality where you can watch the total solar eclipse in 2024.

Until 1:30 p.m. CDT

The eclipse will be seen in the Lone Star State first in the nation. until around 1:30 p.m. CDT, these locations will allow astronomers to witness totality:

  • Amistad National Recreation Area near the Texas-Mexico border in the town Del Rio.

  • Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park in Stonewall, Texas.

  • Waco Mammoth National Monument in Waco, Texas.

Starting at 1:47 p.m. CDT

The Land of Opportunity State is the next state in the line of totality, and observers can catch a glimpse of totality at these national park units starting at around 1:47 p.m.

  • President William Jefferson Clinton Birthplace Home National Historic Site in Hope, Arkansas.

  • Hot Springs National Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

  • Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site in Little Rock, Arkansas.

  • Buffalo National River near the town of St. Joe, Arkansas.

Just before 2 p.m. CDT

Just before 2 p.m., the line of totality will cross the southeast corner of the Show-Me State after passing through Arkansas.

  • Ozark National Scenic Riverways near the towns of Eminence and Van Buren, Missouri.

  • Ste. Genevieve National Historical Park in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri.

A little after 2 p.m. CDT

The path of totality will then move into the Hoosier State a little after 2 p.m. CDT:

  • Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial near Lincoln City. Located in southern Indiana.

  • George Rogers Clark National Historical Park in Vincennes, Indiana.

A few minutes after 3 p.m. EDT

A few minutes after 3 p.m. EDT, the eclipse’s path of totality will enter the Buckeye State:

  • Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park in Dayton, Ohio.

  • Charles Young Buffalo Soldiers National Monument in Wilberforce, Ohio.

  • Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial in Put-in-Bay, Ohio.

  • Cuyahoga Valley National Park in the town of Peninsula. Located in northern Ohio

  • James A. Garfield National Historic Site in Mentor, Ohio. The home of James Garfield.

At around 3:19 p.m. EDT

The solar eclipse will be seen in these national park units beginning at around 3:19 p.m. when the path of totality passes through the Empire State. EDT

  • Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site in Buffalo. Located near the U.S.-Canada border

  • Women’s Rights National Historical Park in Seneca Falls, New York.

  • Harriet Tubman National Historical Park in Auburn. Located in central New York

Lastly, around 3:30 p.m. EDT

Lastly, the path of totality will move across the Pine Tree State starting at around 3:30 p.m. EDT:

  • Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument in north-central Maine.
